MARK TWAIN ON A BENCH III
SITTING AT THE LIBRARY AT 605 E WALNUT…
Is Mark Twain, a sculpture created by well renowned Utah artist, Gary Lee Price. Price currently has three other sculptures in Garden City. At the time, this was also the third rendition of Mark Twain that Price had created, hence the name Mark Twain on a Bench III. This is the second of 3 pieces created by Price in Garden City, and it was dedicated in 2009 the same year as Journeys of the Imagination.
Gary Lee Price is a world renowned artist based out of Utah. His work can be seen at places such as the Hong Kong Central Library, one of the largest Libraries globally, Decatur, Georgia, after its dedication by former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, and many other notable places spanning all across the globe. Price graduated from the University of Utah in 1981 with a degree in the fine arts and a passion for creating sculptures meant to inspire and uplift viewers. He is currently focused on raising money for a 305 foot statue in Utah.
The library was lucky enough to have the artist come out for the dedication of this impressive 500 pound sculpture. It depicts famous author Mark Twain sitting on a bench outside of the library, which makes for a perfect photo op spot! The sculpture retailed for around 46,000 dollars at the time, however it was discounted for the Library since they had purchased Journeys of the Imagination prior, making them repeat buyers.
